Los Cahorros de Monachil is a canyon carved by the Monachil river at the foot of the Sierra Nevada. The trail starts in the village of Monachil, follows the stream, passes under cliffs and crosses several suspension bridges, the longest about sixty metres. In summer there are small waterfalls and pozas, natural pools where the water stays cool.
The route calls for sure footing and a bit of agility. Past the bridges, the path enters a narrow section where you sometimes have to move bent over, or even on all fours: this is not a beach stroll. We recommend a mountain guide, who knows the trail, adapts the pace to the group and points out the tricky sections.
Spring and autumn bring mild temperatures. In summer, the heat means an early start. The return is by transfer, since the trail is linear.
