Why Granada for a seminar
Granada has a rare asset: a lively historic city set against a mountain range, with the Alhambra rising above the rooftops. Your participants can work in the morning in the centre, then head in the late afternoon to the whitewashed lanes of the Albaicín or the gardens of the Generalife.
The centre is compact enough to walk, which makes moving a group around much simpler. For a team discovering Andalusia, the city is a pleasant surprise.
Getting there: plane, train and road
Federico García Lorca airport (GRX) lies about fifteen kilometres from the city. It serves Madrid and Barcelona, along with several other Spanish and European cities depending on the season.
From Madrid, the high-speed train (AVE) takes about three and a half hours to Granada. From Málaga airport, allow between an hour and a half and two and a half hours by bus, and about an hour and a half by car depending on traffic. Timetables change from season to season, so we check them with you when the programme is fixed.
Choosing the season
Granada has hot, dry summers: at midday, walking around becomes hard work. Winters are cool, with possible frost and, now and then, a little snow in the city. Spring, especially May, and autumn, especially October, are the most pleasant: mild days, cool evenings and a less crowded city.
Winter has another advantage: the Sierra Nevada is under an hour's drive away, so a seminar in the city can be extended with a day in the snow.
Where to meet as a group
The historic centre and the streets near the cathedral offer a good choice of hotels and restaurants within walking distance. For large plenary sessions or evening events, the city's exhibition and congress centre hosts bigger gatherings.
We choose the venue according to group size, the type of meetings and your calendar, then check capacities and availability with each establishment before proposing it to you.
Programme ideas
- A morning of work in a bright meeting room, lunch in an Albaicín patio, then a visit to the Alhambra in the booked time slot.
- A walk through the Sacromonte quarter, with a flamenco show late in the day.
- An evening of tapas: in many bars a tapa comes free with each drink, a tradition that is still very much alive.
Frequently asked questions
How many days should a seminar in Granada last?
Two days are enough for a full meeting with a half day of discovery. Three days let you combine work, a visit to the Alhambra and an excursion to the mountains.
How far ahead should the Alhambra be booked?
Yes. The official site recommends booking ahead because demand is high. Tickets can be bought online, at ATMs or by phone, and up to 23:59 the day before the visit.
Is Granada suitable for a summer seminar?
July and August are very hot. If the seminar has to take place then, choose air-conditioned rooms and plan visits early in the morning or in the evening.
